Itinerary
Day 1 - Martha's Vineyard
This morning, our motor-coach takes us to the port of Woods Hole, MA, where we will board the Steamship Authority Ferry for the short trip to Oak Bluffs on the charming island of Martha’s Vineyard. The lively, diverse town of Oak Bluffs was originally inhabited by the Wampanoag Indians and later served as a popular Methodist revival campground in the 19th century, which then gave way to the brightly colored “gingerbread houses” that decorate the town today.
We have a tour of the island where we learn about the down-island towns of Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, and Edgartown. See Vineyard Haven’s impressive harbor known for the Steamship Authority Ferries. Experience the unique, brightly colored gingerbread cottages of Oak Bluffs, and learn the history of the campground cottages. You’ll see the oldest known working carousel in the country, and gorgeous beaches. Your visit will head to historical Edgartown where pristine whaling captain’s homes align themselves with Edgartown harbor. This picture-perfect community is filled with rose covered white picket fences and a show stopping lighthouse that has a panoramic view of Chappaquiddick island. We’ll also show you where scenes from the movie “Jaws” was filmed.
There will be free time in Oak Bluffs for lunch, shopping and local exploration before catching the late afternoon ferry back to the mainland to meet your motor-coach for the return home.
