Itinerary

Day 1 - Hyde Park

Our trip begins and takes us to Hyde Park, NY where we will spend the early part of the day at the home and library of Franklin D. Roosevelt. The National Historic Site contains “Springwood”, the lifelong home of America’s only 4-term President. Also on this site is the Presidential Museum and Library. FDR loved this land and loved nature, enough that in his time at Hyde Park he planted over a half a million trees. Spend some time on a self-guided walk through the library.  This afternoon we head into Manahattan and check in to our hotel.

Day 2 - New York, New York

After breakfast this morning we head into New York City ~ our destination is the 9/11 Museum and Memorial. serves as the country’s principal institution concerned with exploring the implications of the events of 9/11, documenting the impact of those events and exploring 9/11’s continuing significance. The Museum displays artifacts associated with the events of 9/11, while presenting stories of loss and recovery.

The 9/11 Memorial’s twin reflecting pools are each nearly an acre in size and feature  the largest manmade waterfalls in North America and sit within the footprints of where the Twin Towers once stood. The names of every person who died in the 2001 and 1993 attacks are inscribed on bronze panels around the edges of the Memorial pools, this being the reminder of the largest loss of life resulting from a foreign attacks on American soil.

After we will head over to Battery Park and get on the ferry to go see the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island. The first stop on the ferry is the Statue of Liberty, a gift of Friendship from the people of France to the United States, is recognized as a universal symbol of freedom and democracy. Then you get back on the same ferry and head over to Ellis Island where 12 million immigrants passed through, between 1892-1954, looking for the ‘American Dream.’  From here we get on the New Jersey ferry where our bus will meet us at Liberty Park on the New Jersey side.
