Day 1 - Hancock, MA
Head to a Utopian Village for the day! Located in Pittsfield Massachusetts, the Hancock Shaker Village was founded in 1783, and was active through 1960. Hancock Shaker Village is often times referenced as The City of Peace. It is here that the community members enjoyed a simple, peaceful and hardworking life that was away from “the world”.
Upon arrival, you will be greeted with a Shaker Grace followed by a buffet lunch. During dessert you will be treated to a Shaker Music Program that illuminates Shaker beliefs and spirituality. After lunch, you will start a 90 minute guided tour that will introduce you to many of the key sites in the village. This will give you a glimpse into the Shaker daily life and practice. After the tour, you will be treated to a cider and cheese reception.
The day’s menu will consist of: Sister Ethel’s Chicken Soup, Garden Salad, Roast Loin of Pork with Shaker Mushroom Sauce, Shaker Turkey Cakes with Celery Gravy, Roasted Red Potatoes with Garlic and Herbs, Carrots and Green Beans with Brown Butter and Parsley, Dessert, Iced Tea, and Water.
