Day 2 - Budapest, Hungary - Bratislava, Slovakia
Budapest captivates visitors year-round, but during this season, the soft hues of its ancient spires and majestic domes create a particularly striking winter panorama.
The city’s historic palaces, remarkable Roman ruins, and elegant Art Nouveau architecture form a spectacular setting for its renowned Christmas markets. This morning’s guided tour takes you to the principal landmarks, including the iconic Parliament Building and the historic Castle District, where cobbled lanes wind through medieval quarters offering sweeping views across the city.
After lunch aboard, anticipation builds as the ship departs and your journey truly begins. Settle in and watch the enchanting landscape unfold beyond the panoramic windows. This afternoon brings one of the cruise’s highlights: the Danube Bend, where the river carves a dramatic path through a narrow, winding valley bordered by towering mountains and snow-blanketed slopes.
Bundle up and head to the deck to witness this stunning procession of winter scenery in the crisp air, then retreat to the cozy lounge to catch up on reading or finish your Christmas correspondence. As evening approaches, gather in the ship’s well-appointed bar for pre-dinner drinks before another delicious meal is served in the inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. (B,L,D)
Day 3 - Bratislava
Over breakfast this morning, the ship arrives in Bratislava, Slovakia’s capital. Having left its communist era behind, the city has reclaimed its imperial legacy through its beautifully restored baroque old town, while the imposing white fortress, once home to rulers, commands sweeping river views.
A morning tour reveals the city’s rich history, taking you to the fortress and through the old town’s highlights: the sole surviving gate from the medieval fortifications, the Neo-Renaissance Old Opera House, St. Martin’s Cathedral—a 15th-century Gothic church where coronations once took place—and the elegant Classicist Primate’s Palace.
Following lunch on board, you’re free to return ashore and wander the labyrinthine streets adorned with festive decorations, leading to the main square and its inviting Christmas market. The air carries the warm scent of cinnamon while countless fairy lights shimmer among the Christmas trees. Consider ascending the Old Town Hall tower for panoramic views of the city and the lively market below. The charming red and white stalls overflow with handcrafted treasures—ornaments, carved wooden figures, and pottery. Sample regional specialties like potato pancakes or poppy-seed strudel, though save room for dinner, which will be served aboard as we sail onward toward Vienna. (B,L,D)
Day 4 - Vienna, Austria
While you slept, the ship glided silently into port, and you awaken to find yourself in Vienna. Few cities capture the essence of Christmas quite like this one—where stately imperial buildings shimmer with decorations beneath a thousand twinkling lights, classical carols drift through the crisp air, and the tempting aromas of candyfloss and roasted chestnuts evoke a nostalgic, timeless celebration.
Christmas markets have graced Vienna since medieval times, and today over 20 festive markets offer an abundance of seasonal gifts and delectable treats. The City Hall provides a magnificent setting for one of the most beloved markets, its windows forming a giant advent calendar that reflects the countless lights sparkling in the trees. The stunning Schönbrunn Palace hosts another exceptional market, showcasing traditional handicrafts and vintage-style toys.
Following breakfast, a guided tour introduces you to the city’s key attractions, including St Stephen’s Cathedral and the impressive Hofburg complex—the former royal residence now housing museums, the Vienna Boys’ Choir, and the renowned Spanish Riding School.
After lunch aboard, you’ll have ample time to explore more markets while brass bands perform festive melodies and the sweet scent of nutmeg fills the air. When the cold sets in, warm up in an elegant yet welcoming traditional Viennese café with a rich hot chocolate as twilight descends.
Return to the ship for this evening’s Chef’s Dinner, impeccably served by your attentive crew. Then comes the perfect finale: an onboard classical recital. Experiencing this sublime music performed in the very city where it was composed creates an unforgettable conclusion to your day. (B,L,D)

Later in the morning, join an onboard demonstration of traditional Stollen-making. With festive spices perfuming the air and the ship dressed in seasonal décor, it’s a warm and delightful way to embrace the holiday spirit.
For those seeking activity, the ship’s fitness center offers a chance to work off some of those indulgent meals, or head to the sun deck to enjoy the invigorating river breeze with a steaming mug of spiced Glühwein as the Captain expertly guides the ship back toward the Hungarian capital.
Your final lunch is served as Budapest’s magnificent skyline emerges into view.
