Day 1 - Home to Zurich, Switzerland
Transfer to to the airport for our flight to Zurich, Switzerland with your Tours of Distinction Tour Director.
Day 2 - Zurich, Switzerland
Arriving in Zurich, we check-in to our hotel. Once settled-in, we partake in a guided tour of this unique European city.
Day 3 - Zurich - Imagery II Embarkation
Breakfast and the morning at leisure to explore Zurich at your own pace. Later, we transfer to Basel and board the Imagery II for our 5 day river cruise and partake in a Welcome Reception with the Captain.
Day 4 - Breisach, Germany
Located at the foot of Kaiserstuhl Mountain on the French-German border, Breisach is the gateway to Germany’s BLACK FOREST region. The locals once described the trees as black because of the dense, thick pine trees that lined the forest. The region is best known fro Black Forest Ham, cherry cake, and cuckoo clocks. There’s no better time to visit the Black Forest Region than now, you can see smoke curling up from the chimneys of the traditional houses taking us back to our younger years. In the afternoon there will be free time to go and explore the well known Christmas Market in Breisach. There is also an optional excursion to Colmar, an old town lined with cobblestone streets and medieval and early Renaissance buildings in France’s Alsace region.
Day 5 - Strasbourg, France
Arrive in Strasbourg, France. A town that borders France and Germany. The town is filled with historic charm from the red-sandstone Gothic Cathedral with its ancient murals and majestic stained glass windows, to the magical La Petite France District, home to quaint shops, homes, and waterfront promenade. Take some free time to explore the historic square of Place Kléber located at the heart of the city and Place Gutenber, situated in the heart of the medieval Strasbourg. The Christmas market located around Place de la Cathédrale and Place Broglie, its centerpiece is a giant Christmas tree. As you stroll through the festively decorated and illuminated streets you’ll notice the pleasing aromas of mulled wine, sweets, spice cakes, and biscuits—a truly magical atmosphere! This afternoon, an optional excursion into the Alsace wine region is available.
Day 6 - Heidelberg, Germany
Today, an excursion takes you to Heidelberg, home to the oldest university in Germany, founded in 1386. Visit the imposing ruins of Heidelberg Castle, towering magnificently over the city and among the most important Renaissance structures north of the Alps. You’ll also see the famed Great Vat, the “World’s Largest Wine Barrel.” At nearly 23 feet high and 28 feet wide, the cask holds over 58,000 gallons of wine and has a dance floor built on top of it! At this time of year, an ice rink is set up at the foot of the castle, and stalls offer Glühwein, Bratwurst, and other tasty treats. The Christmas market is scattered over five town squares, and you’ll find a wide array of crafts and regional delicacies. There is plenty of free time to shop for Christmas decorations or gifts.
Day 7 - Wiesbaden, Germany (disembarkation) - Frankfurt, Germany
After breakfast, we disembark our home for 5 days and transfer to our hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore some of the best Christmas Markets in Frankfurt and get those last-minute gifts! Your Tour Director will have suggestions for local dinner venues.
Day 8 - Frankfurt, Germany - Home
After breakfast we head to the airport for our flight home and take with us wonderful memories of the Christmas spirit.
